Wrinkle Relaxers >

Botulinum toxin type A is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle causing muscles, creating a refreshed look. Wrinkle relaxers are primarily used in the upper face to reduce lines and wrinkles. As we age, changes occur at different rates to our upper, mid and lower face. In the upper face ‘dynamic’ lines appear, in the forehead and around the eyes, when we smile or frown. These lines appear because various muscles contract to form different facial expressions. Over time these expression lines begin to linger a little longer, or become deeper, even when your face is at rest (static lines). Botulinum toxin type A relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles to help refresh your facial appearance.

How does Botulinum toxin type A work?

Wrinkle relaxers work by relaxing facial muscles that cause dynamic lines when you smile or frown. Wrinkle relaxers gradually smooth out current lines and reduces new lines forming.

What do wrinkle relaxer treatments involve?

Wrinkle relaxer treatments are quick and simple, non-surgical procedures. During treatments a small amount of Botulinum toxin type A is injected into specific facial muscles using a very fine needle. Treatments generally take around 10 minutes. Typically, the pain is minimal and brief. No anaesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. It is important to follow any other aftercare instructions given to you.

When will I see results, how long will they last?

Generally, people start to see results within two days of their treatment, and it takes about seven days for all results to be visible. Different people have different degrees of response to the same dose of Botulinum toxin type A. At VASC Cosmetic we will review you two weeks post procedure to assess the initial results. It is not uncommon to require further smaller doses of Botulinum toxin type A to achieve the best results. The effects of wrinkle relaxer treatments usually last up to four months and gradually decrease over time. If you have regular treatments, the effects may last longer.

How do I maintain my results?

Regular wrinkle relaxer treatments may help improve the longevity of the treatment’s effects. In addition, regular treatment may help reduce static wrinkles. Our practice nurse will discuss a treatment plan for regular treatments.

Complications

In the treatment of upper facial lines, the doses of Botulinum toxin that are used are small. In the vast majority of cases, any side effects are temporary, and are limited to the injection site. Possible side effects include: pain, burning or stinging; bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site; local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids or eyebrows; swollen eyelids and skin tightness; tingling sensations, itching or aching forehead; headaches, nausea and flu like symptoms. If you have any concerns about side effects you can talk to our practice nurse.

dermal fillers >

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that restore natural facial contours by adding volume to your skin and lips. When we are younger we see dynamic lines in parts of the face where there is a lot of muscle movement. Over time, these lines might linger a little longer, or become a little deeper, even when your face is at rest (static lines). You may also see changes to the curves and contours of your face due to volume loss. Areas prone to skin volume loss include the cheeks, lips, brows, temples and jawline.

  • $400 to $450/ml

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are made from a naturally occurring sugar (called hyaluronic acid) that provides the skin with volume and hydration. It is placed below the skins surface to ‘fill in’ or ‘plump up’ static facial wrinkles and folds.

What are dermal fillers made from?

Dermal fillers are a smooth injectable gel that is made from a natural complex sugar called hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is normally found within human skin, assisting in skin hydration by attracting and holding water. It also combines with collagen and elastin to help provide skin structure and elasticity.

When will I see results, how long will they last?

Dermal fillers give results that can be seen immediately, and the majority of people resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. The results can last from 6 to 18 months (depending on the type of filler used).

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure may take between 15 minutes and half an hour. You should be able to resume normal activities upon leaving the clinic.

What should I expect from my procedure?

Treatment with dermal fillers is a non-surgical procedure. It is administered through injections by our trained cosmetic nurse. Like any injection there may be some discomfort during the administration of dermal fillers. The level of discomfort varies from one person to another and depends upon which product is being used and what area is being treated. Some of the products contain an anaesthetic called lidocaine, which has been shown to increase patient comfort. A topical anaesthetic may also be used.

Are there any possible side effects?

While you may experience no side effects at all, as with all medications, side effects can occur. Reported dermal side effects include injection site redness, pain, firmness, swelling, lumps and bumps, bruising, itching and discolouration. In the vast majority of cases, these effects are temporary and should resolve within a week.
